Józef Antoni Poniatowski - Polish Patriot Tie
Based on an old copperplate print stipple engraving printed circa 1815. Josef Poniatowski
Marshal Josef Poniatowski
was a French Marshal and a Polish Prince (1763-1813) Poniatowski was the nephew of Poland's King Stanilaus II. He grew up in Austria and served in the Austrian army, fighting against the Turks, but later returned to Poland to fight for his country's independence. He believed Napoleon Bonaparte offered the best hope of achieving that goal and worked to form Polish units to fight for Napoleon. The text below the print can be translated to read: Prince Joseph Poniatowski, Minister of War of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, Decorated with the Eagle of the Legion of Honour. Born May 6, 1770. (Prince Joseph Poniatowski, Minister de la Guerre du Grand Duche de Varsovie, Decore du Grand-Aigle de La Legion d'Honneur, Ne le 6 May, 1770. ).
