High above Oswestry it was a wild windy day, my little old car buffeted torturous as it struggled to climb the steep, knarled lanes which were a joy to travel solely for the feral sheep ... and they, lurked round every bend threatening to force you off the road and I wondered, was I lost? My errand, to reach the farm of John and Sue Lloyd. Yes, I'd been there before, but with those high banked hedges and wild sheep, it was not easy and takes some doing ! So it was I enjoyed the scenic route for a few hours before the welcome sight of their lovely farm filled my view. I'd made it.!! I was there to explain the intricacies of dressage to Murphy, a lovely black driving poney just 4 years old bred and trained by John, John hadn't got to be Champion with Willum by neglecting dressage. Murphy was riding very nicely when John decided to take me for a drive ... along those lanes ... with the wind ... and the mad sheep. "Well !, isn't he going good" John kept saying as the light cart sped hard forth with the willing Murphy throwing himself gleefully into the task. John was right Murphy charged forward like a trooper .... But think on this, to anyone like me used to having a leg securely on each side, driving a horse is alarming, it seems downright foolhardy. The horse, so remote, miles and miles away in front, where it and can squirm around. I was at the back doing the balancing thingy with my weight when the dogs attacked. Murphy, phased not, paused not, with a deft side-step adroightly mounted the bank. Cart teetered, I scrabbled to balance wishing I'd eaten more cream cakes (more weight). By dint of speed Murphy saved the day he lept as if winged to land safely on the Mountain Lane. Disssapointed Dogs dispirited sloped off home. John said "Isn't he going Good?" ---- "Why do you keep saying that?" I asked. "Well, THIS is his FIRST time out on the road " was the proud reply.
