July Fourteenth, Rue Daunou (1910) by Childe Hassam is a vintage impressionism fine art urban cityscape painting. Crowds of people gather in the streets to celebrate France's Independence Day, the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille prison. A view from above from the Hôtel l'Empire at 7 rue Daunou to the street below decorated with flags during the French patriotic holiday Bastille Day celebrations in Paris, France on July 14th. This painting is an important precursor to Hassam's Flag series of 1916–18.
About the artist:
Frederick Childe Hassam (1859-1935) was a prominent and prolific American Impressionist painter, noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Hassam was instrumental in promulgating Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and the museums.
