Until my sister shared with me the history behind July 4th celebration vs. Juneteenth celebration, I didn't celebrate Juneteenth, cause I didn't know much about it. However, once I understood that July 4th 1776 didn't include freedom for African Americans. It wasn't until June 19th 1865, hence Juneteenth, that African Americans began to realise their freedom according to the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation.
