Jupiter, Saturn And Uranus Per Martineau (cards)

Jupiter, Saturn And Uranus Per Martineau (cards)

This image was inspired by the remarkable work of John Martineau, in "A Little Book of Coincidence". Tiled, mirrored images of Saturns's rings (colourized three different ways) form the background. Three concentric circles, define the orbits of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. The innermost (Jupiter's orbit) touches the 8 points of contact of the next-to-outermost points of a stellated octagon (extending the sides of an octagon to the point where the they just meet at obtuse angles). The outermost points (further extending the octagon sides to where they meet at acute angles) define the orbit of Saturn. Circumscribing an equilateral triangle around this circle, then another circle around the triangle defines the orbit of Uranus. Spheres are used to represent the circles for artistic effect. More info: www.GeometryCode.com. I think John Martineau's name will (some day, hopefully soon!) be heralded among Kepler, Galileo, Newton and Einstein for the astronomical discoveries he's made. Here's a link to John's book if you haven't seen it (HIGHLY recommended): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0802713882/intent-20 (Created with POV-Ray http://www.povray.org)
