Kanji numeral one in circle tie
In Japanese, this is a KAMON that is called "Maru ni ichi-no-ji"./ This is the kanji numeral one. It symbolised being the first to arrive at the battlefield, or may also represent a spearhead. The character can also be read "katsu" which means "to win" a battle. For these reasons, it was considered symbolic of the samurai spirit. (From "Family Crests of Japan" ICG Muse,Inc.)
