Khiva 2010 Calendar

Itchan Kala in Khiva was the first site in Uzbekistan to be inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List (1990). The inner town of the old Khiva oasis was the last resting-place of caravans on the Silk Road before crossing the desert to Iran. It is a coherent and well-preserved example of the Muslim architecture of Central Asia: there are several outstanding structures such as the Djuma Mosque, and the mausoleums, madrasas and magnificent palaces built by Alla-Kulli-Khan at the beginning of the 19th century.
