Koi Fish with Lotus Postcard
Koi Fish with Lotus is a brush painting in traditional Chinese "Gongbi" style. Watercolor and ink on rice paper.
In traditional Chinese culture, fish is the symbols of fertility and wealth. Fish images are also often to given as wedding gift as fish multiply rapidly and they often swim in pairs. In China, fish and jade are homonymic words (all sound "yu"), so fish represents affluence and abundance.
The Koi fish has a long history in China. It is one of the most popular auspicious things. The ancient China people deem koi fish as one of the symbol of wealth, respect, lucky and power.
In particular a Black Fish and a Red Fish frolicking in water resemble the black and white areas of TaiJi ("great ultimate"). So two fish paintings or scrolls can represent yin and yang and has very auspicious meanings. Two fishes are also one of the Eight Auspicious-symbols of Buddhism. They represent firm and harmonious relationship, and they symbolise happiness and can ward off evil.
In Feng Shui Lotus Flower and Koi Fish Paintings represent that you live in affluence and every year may you always get more than you wish for.
Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Gongbi, or “Meticulous Painting”,has been specially favoured for its realistic technique and bold colouring.
GongBi is a careful realist technique in Chinese painting, the opposite of the interpretive and freely expressive XieYi style.
The technique calls for brushstrokes to “be as detailed as detailed can be”, uses highly detailed brushstrokes that delimit details very precisely and without independent or expressive variation. In addition, it tries to strike a balance between artistic expression and vitality, is often highly coloured and usually depicts figural or narrative subjects.
Gongbi requires drawing with fine lines first to represent the exaggerated likenesses of the objects, and then adds washes of ink and colour layer by layer so as to approach the perfection of exquisiteness and fine art.

Zazzle's site provides a lot of design choices for gifts and cards. Their options for Lunar New Year cards are numerous, creative and up-to-date, i.e., the Year of the Ox. The price point for many stationery items encourages me to make small gifts to include with birthday cards or as token remembrances. The whimsical and cheerful designs provide a lot of creative and unique gifts for children and adults. Personalizing the choice of design or monograms is a feature my family and friends enjoy, whether it be unicorns or soccer balls. The design is timely, whimsical and a cheerful greeting. The card stock is an excellent quality, not flimsy.
From past experience, I have learned a bold font reproduces better and provides better visibility. As the font choices are numerous, this is not difficult.

Nice product. I like the Semi-Gloss surface of front picture. Good for greeting folks at my Church. The printing turned out nice, as expected.

I had already ordered 5x7 Christmas cards as I usually do, but then I needed some unbudgeted extras and realized I could use postcards and save a lot of the cost! I hadn’t previously considered postcards for my Christmas cards because I used them for my wedding save the dates a year ago and the post office machines got the designs all dirty (black streaks across our engagement pictures weren’t pretty!).
When I realized the postcards could also come with an envelope, I decided to go with it! I love the size of these for Christmas cards—they’re true to the size of all my smaller stationery.
The design of this was great to work with (my previous design had locked elements and therefor wouldn’t transfer properly to a postcard). I loved that I could tweak the backgrounds and move elements as needed.
I added a custom design created in Canva to the back for a little extra pizzazz. These are a great option, and I’ll think I’ll go this route in the future! Printing was great. Colors were vibrant, true and vivid!
