(May Peace be with you, Mark, my evangelist.). The lion is the symbol of Saint Mark (San Marco). Repubblica di Venezia, (in Venetian: Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta or Repùblica de Venesia), is also called La Serenissima - meaning the most serene republic.
