Le Soleil Conserves Postcard

Vintage Label Art are paper labels that have been used since the early 1880s. They were introduced to America by European artists, and this printing process became known as lithography. This was one of the first forms of commercial art. This French ad is for “conserves” which is food that has been preserved in cans or bottles. This would be a creative postcard/invitation to use for a housewarming or a party featuring kitchen products. Who could resist this jolly fellow with a big “le soleil” or sun on his belly and his arms holding pretty cans and bottles of food.
