Left Mitsudomoe Bicycle Playing Cards
The left and right sides of the tomoe crest are not determined by the direction of the swirl, but rather by a rational name based on the diagram. Even a crest designer might get confused about the left and right sides of the tomoe, but they would recall a useful oral tradition. To determine the correct shape, they would first clench their left palm and look at their wrist, which would form the shape of the left tomoe. Clenching their right palm would immediately reveal the shape of the right tomoe. (From 'The Story of Family Crests' by Awazaka Tsumio, p.61). This design is for a cut-out (printed) specification. The term 'printed' refers to the technique of creating a stencil by cutting out the tomoe design and then placing the stencil on fabric and brushing on paint (Reference: 'The Power of the Swastika, the Curse of the Tomoe' by Awazaka Tsumio, p.146)
