Lion and Lioness wedding Jigsaw Puzzle
A VERY neato full colour print dating to the 1870-something*, depicting the scene at a lion couple's wedding reception. From the artist's estate tons of my other items comes from. She had scratched in pencil on the back what looks like 1870, or maybe 1878, or maybe 1879. I first guessed that 7 might have actually been the number 1, but they weren't making things like this in 1810, 1818 or 1819. Thus and therefore, sometime in 1870s. (Penmanship was not really in her wheelhouse.) The original print is captioned in French and Italian, and translates as “The various breeds gathered in a banquet to show the peace of the animal world, celebrate the wedding of the Lion and the Lionesses. The magician will give the gifts of circumstance." Let me add something to that, to wit: It looks fantastic on all kinds of EVERYTHING, including jigsaw puzzles. Wanna see more old? I customized a puzzle as a fund raiser for my adoption. I wanted a puzzle that I could "sell" pieces to raise money, and write the names of all the donors on the back of the pieces. The puzzle arrived ahead of the projected delivery date, and the quality was incredible! The backs were clean and the different sizes and shapes worked perfectly for writing names. I have finished putting the puzzle together, and I just need a frame to put in on our new baby's wall with the names of everyone who helped us bring him home written on the back! Image quality was great! The wording was sharp, and the picture was just the right amount of fuzzy (the picture was drawn and colored with pencil shading).
