Lion and Lionesses on the Bank of an African River Doormat

This design features a painting by Briton Riviere (1840–1920), who was an English artist of Huguenot descent. It shows a male lion with three lionesses as they prowl alongside the shore of a river in Africa. The ground that the lions are walking on is dry and arid, and the water of the river looks refreshing. There is land on the other side of the river with some greenery and palm trees. The male lion can be identified by his large mane of fur. No female lioness has a mane. All four of the animals are strong and muscular. They are walking proudly and confidently through the landscape.
