Louisiana Constitution & Convention Members, 1868 Poster

This poster features the African Americans, most born free men, who formed a majority of delegates at the Louisiana Constitutional Convention of 1868. Louisiana, like all the new Southern constitutions written after the U.S. Civil War, gave Blacks political and civil rights. The delegates at the 1868 constitutional convention included Oscar J. Dunn, the state’s lieutenant governor, and P. B. S. Pinch back, who became lieutenant governor and subsequently governor of Louisiana. This is a great resource for teachers and educators who seek to portray a more accurate account of the diversity of American history. It is also a valuable poster for African-American history programming and presentations, as well as a Black history homeschooling resource.
