Love Among the Ruins (by Edward Burne-Jones) Doormat
This design features a painting by the British Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir Edward Burne-Jones (1833–1898). It depicts a man and a woman amid ruined architecture from the Mediaeval period. The man and the woman appear to be lovers, as they are holding each other tightly, and they are seated together on a stone capital amid the ruins of buildings. A broken column is at their feet, which is covered with briar rose. In the background is a door, which has a frieze of cherubs, and there are arches leading into the distance behind the couple. Edward Burne-Jones worked on this painting in 1874, after his four-year love affair with his model Maria Zambaco had come to a sudden end.
