Machinist - When precision matters 1919 Postcard

Colourized photo from 1919 Original Title: Lapping precision gauge blocks Location: Washington DC (probably) The Bureau of standards create measurement devices of the highest tolerance. We use their standards of measure so everything we make is uniform and exact. They are the base standard. These people are making gauge blocks. Gauge blocks are devices of an exact height, length or thickness. These machines are called lapping machines, basically polishing the final block so its within 0.000005 inches.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
