A standard pattern for tenugui that was popular during the Edo period. The words ``mame'' and ``bean'', both of which are strong and healthy, are used to symbolize good health. Today's Mame Shibori is mostly pattern-dyed or printed, so it has a regular array of circles, but in the past, as the name suggests, it was tie-dyed, so it had irregular polka dots.
