Matamoe (Landscape with Peacocks) (1892). Artist: Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (1848-1903). Matamoe is a vintage fine art post impressionism painting featuring a typical landscape scene in Tahiti with trees in the jungle, a native man playing a musical instrument, peacocks and other animals, birds and wildlife. About the artist: Paul Gauguin was a leader in the Post Impressionist movement which extended Impressionism while rejecting its limitations. They continued using vivid colours, thick application of paint, distinctive brushstrokes and real-life subject matter, but they were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, to distort form for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary colour.
