Merchant Storehouses: Kawagoe, Japan Postcard

A former castle town, Kawagoe flourished as a supply center for the capital city of Edo (Tokyo). To protect their goods from fire and thieves, local merchants built storehouses (kurazukuri) with thick, clay walls and elaborately tiled roofs. In Kawagoe, modern visitors can still enjoy the feeling of old Japan.
