Michelangelo's Study for the Battle of Cascina

Study for the Battle of Cascina (1504) by Michelangelo (1475–1564) is a vintage Renaissance Era fine art drawing. Pen and ink over black chalk sketch featuring the back of a man. The painting was commissioned by Piero Soderini, a statesman of the Republic of Florence. It was intended to be a fresco painted on a wall of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio but Michelangelo never completed the battle of Cascina, though several of the preparatory drawings survive.
