The Space Shuttle Atlantis is shown on the big screen in this overall view of the shuttle flight control room (WFCR) in Houston’s Mission Control Centre (MCC) as it awaits liftoff from launch pad 39B at Kennedy Space Centre, Florida. Atlantis launched at 3:44 p.m. (CDT) on April 8, 2002. Once the vehicle cleared the tower in Florida, the Houston-based team of flight controllers took over the ground control of the flight.
