The mongoose in this wildlife photo is like the hero in Rudyard Kipling's short story "Rikki Tikii Tavi" A cute mongoose (a relative to the meercat, not a mustelid like the Honey Badger) visits his favourite watering hole, a popular hangout for all sorts of Hawaiian wildlife. This mongoose is one of many that comes for the crunchy cat food and fresh water in our back yard in Hawaii, a snack bar for feral cats, mongoose, geckos, and assorted birds -- and also a place for the latter to bathe.
