Mug of The Old Guard - 3d Infantry Regiment

The 3rd United States Infantry Regiment with origins in 1784, is the oldest infantry regiment of the military. It currently has three active battalions and is readily identified by its nickname, The Old Guard, as well as Escort to the President. The regimental motto is Noli Me Tangere (from Latin: – "Touch Me Not"). Since World War II, The Old Guard has served as the official Army Honor Guard and escort to the president. In that capacity, 3rd Infantry regiment soldiers are responsible for the conducting of military ceremonies at the White House, the Pentagon, national memorials, and elsewhere in the nation’s capital. In addition, soldiers of The Old Guard maintain a 24-hour vigil at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, provide military funeral escorts at Arlington National Cemetery and participate in parades at Fort Myer and Fort Lesley J. McNair.
