Munising Michigan Postcard

Chapel Rock and Chapel Beach are among the most distinctive coastal landmarks within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This scenic section of Michigan's Lake Superior shoreline features remarkable sandstone formations, sandy beaches, forested bluffs, and clear freshwater shaped by centuries of wind and wave erosion. Chapel Rock is especially recognisable for its isolated sandstone pillar crowned by a resilient pine tree. The surrounding coastline offers spectacular kayaking scenery, with sculptural cliff faces, small recesses, and richly coloured rock walls rising above the lake. On calm days, the exceptionally clear water shifts between jade, turquoise, and deep sapphire, creating a striking visual contrast with the warm sandstone and surrounding northern forests. The area embodies the wild, peaceful beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
