The Sandmeyer reaction is an organic reaction used to convert an aryl diazonium salt to an aryl halide using a copper(I) halide catalyst. The reaction is a radical-nucleophilic aromatic substitution. Several improvements have been made to the standard procedures. It’s named after the Swiss chemist Traugott Sandmeyer (1884).
