Natural Waterfall Ice Formation on Bunker Hill Postcard

This ice formation was created by subzero temperatures and fierce winds at the top of the western cliffs of Bunker Hill where a trickling waterfall is located. Bunker Hill is located at the south end of Dutch Harbour, Alaska. The ice formation in this picture is about 15 feet wide and it extends outward about 10 feet. Parts of it are thin enough to be translucent. Complex natural ice sculptures like this one are common in winter on Unalaska Island especially where there are waterfalls or runoff of water from the mountains.
