New Zealand Travel Poster (W.A.G.Skinner, Circa 1920)
This New Zealand travel poster was designed by the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts and printed "by authority of W A G Skinner, Government Printer, Wellington" circa 1920. "Haere Mai" means "Welcome" in the language of the country's indigenous people, the Maori. In vibrant colour, this poster most likely depicts a scene from the geothermal areas near Rotorua on the country's North Island. A Maori mother and child smile warmly out to the viewer as a woman lowers food into a boiling pool. A traditional wharenui (meeting house) can be seen in the background, along with an erupting geyser.
