News From My Lad (by James Campbell) Card
This design features a painting by the English artist James Campbell (1828–1893), who was part of a group from Liverpool that was influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite style. The image is a touching and intimate portrayal of familial love and concern, set against the backdrop of mid-19th century life. Campbell, known for his genre paintings that often depicted scenes of everyday life, captures a moment of deep emotional resonance in this work. The scene is set in a modest craftsman's workshop, where an elderly man, the central figure, is shown holding a letter in his hands. The title of the painting, "News From My Lad", suggests that the letter is from the old man's son, who was likely working or serving far away from home. The old man’s posture is one of weariness and age, with his back slightly bent as he carefully holds and reads the treasured letter. His weathered face, marked by the passage of time, conveys a complex mix of emotions, such as concern, longing and perhaps a glimmer of hope as he absorbs the news from his son. The way he cradles the letter in his hands suggests its significance, making it clear that this is no ordinary piece of correspondence, but one that carries deep personal meaning. The elderly man's workshop is filled with the tools of his trade, indicating a life spent in honest, hard work. He appears to be a locksmith; there are keys hanging from the ceiling. Various tools and implements are scattered around the room, and the details of the worn brickwork, wooden surfaces, rough-hewn beams, and the cluttered shelves add authenticity to the setting. The room reflects the man’s character and the world he inhabits, which is one of simplicity, diligence and quiet dignity. Light plays a subtle but important role in the painting: natural light enters the workshop, possibly through a nearby window, casting a soft, warm glow on the man's figure and the letter he holds. This light highlights the man's focused expression as he reads the letter, drawing the viewer's attention to the central elements of the narrative. The original artwork was painted by James Campbell in 1859.

This card turned out better than I could’ve imagined. I love that I truly was able to customize & personalize the card – from the pictures in the “DADDY” to typing my own personal sentiments on the flip side… The colors and images printed onto the card are high-quality with nothing blurring together. I chose the shimmering pearl paper to go with the bow and provide a certain contrast to the black gift wrapping paper – a plain white card just wouldn’t do for me heheh The shape of the card looks like a baggage tag lol – I wanted this card to look like a tag on a package –
LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS CARD, surpassed my expectations!!

This was a great card that we used for our clients. I was able to customize the look of this card by changing fonts and having our logo seamlessly incorporated onto the card. The printing was very nice and was very near exact to what we saw on the computer.
