About This Design

Norouz Pirouz

Norouz Pirouz

The Persian New Year, Norouz, is always on the first day of spring (March 20-21, depending on the year). Perhaps one of the oldest holidays known to humankind, Norouz is a celebration of the start of life, nature, and growth. It is on Norouz day (the spring equinox) that the sun shines its light equally on both the Earth's hemispheres bringing balance and equality to all. This special card contains the image of Ahura Mazda, the Persian representation of an ethical individual true to oneself and others. The colours on the card are meant to represent colours important to Zoroastrianism, the original Persian religion and mode of thought (Zoroastrians, by the way, were the ones who instituted the celebration of Norouz). On the inside of the card, one will see the inscription evokes the famous and most basic tenent of the Persian thought (Good [pure] thoughts, good words, and good deeds) in the expression: "May your Norouz be filled with Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds." On the front of the card, one will also see the inscription "Norouz Pirouz," meaning" may your Norouz be victorious, may you be victorious on Noruz, may you be strong and powerful on Noruz, etc. It is important to note that the term Norouz is entirely a Persian phrase with only Persian (Farsi) words, as opposed to other phrases utilised such as "Eideh Shomah Mobarak," "Eidehtaan Mobarak," "Norouzetaan Mobarak," and many others which are phrases that are a mix of Arabic and Persian words and not accurate for a holiday that is entirely Persian with no connection to Arabic language or culture.
