Northern Harrier (Circus hudsonius) This species is sometimes referred to as the American Harrier, Marsh Hawk or North American Harrier. In Canada, these raptors breed in every Province with the exception of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the United States of America, nesting populations are found in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and every State north of there. South of the border, they also nest in the Mexican State of Baja California Norte. Regarding the illustration, an adult male stands on the stump of a tree, while an immature bird flies above a narrow, winding river.
