Northern Lake in Autumn: 17X11 Poster

Painting done in oils, of a northern mountain lake in autumn, found in the Brooks Range of Alaska. Far above the arctic circle in the wilderness of the north, the shores are surrounded by taiga and spruce trees that have survived down through the passing of history. The landscape shows the turning of fall in red and golden hues, with some greens still holding on in the distant hills. The darker evergreens contrast with the lighter hues around them, their colours deepened by the rough elements and the passage of time. Cloud cover gently rushes by in shades of grey and silver, their light reflected on the surface of the water, quietly flowing in the wind. This scenic moment seems to demand a pause for reflection on all that has passed, and all that is still to come.
