Bouquet of Sunflowers by Claude Monet. Still life painting of yellow and orange – tinged sunflowers in Japanese vase by Claude Monet. Executed in 1881. Housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Considered a classic of French Impressionist art. After seeing Monet’s painting (which pre-dated his own sunflower series by six years) Vincent Van Gogh remarked in a letter: "Gauguin was telling me the other day that he had seen a picture by Claude Monet of sunflowers in a large Japanese vase, very fine, but—he likes mine better. I don't agree."
