Old Wooden Church Pew Outdoors Side View BW Postcard

I love the honesty and simplicity of black and white photography. Black and white eliminates tricks of colour and focuses instead on line, shape, form, negative space, the balance of aesthetic grace with the feeling of the subject matter. This is an old church pew, set outdoors in Place Aubry, Hull (Gatineau) Quebec. I took the picture from the right-hand end. It's a great idea for people with sore feet. Sit down, enjoy the sunshine, and ponder the pew. It has a couple of cracks made by weather effects, freeze thaw cycles, expansion and contraction of wood, rain and hot sun. You can see the fine wood grain of the pew and trim enhanced by the weather. The little wooden cross in its simple, elegant alcove is missing part of one arm, which adds to the charm and uniqueness of this wonderful design. By the pew are a ragtag bunch of fabric flowers, leaves and other flora. Looking at it from the side, this pew resembles a site marker or pilgrimage stop.
