Oliver Cromwell Postcard

Oliver Cromwell Postcard

Oliver Cromwell, one of the most prominent figures in English history, was born on April 25, 1599, in Huntingdon, England. He emerged as a key leader during the tumultuous period of the English Civil War in the 17th century. Initially, Cromwell was a Member of Parliament with strong Puritan beliefs, advocating for religious and political reforms. However, as the conflict between Parliament and King Charles I escalated into a civil war, he rose to prominence as a military commander in the Parliamentarian army, known as the Roundheads, due to their distinctive haircuts. Cromwell's military leadership played a crucial role in the Parliamentarian victory over the Royalists, and he eventually rose to become Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland after the execution of King Charles I in 1649. During his tenure, he exercised significant political power, and his rule is chraacterised by a period of strict Puritan governance, military expansion, and the suppression of dissent. Cromwell passed away on September 3, 1658, but his legacy endures as a complex and polarising figure in English history. To some, he is a hero who defended parliamentary democracy and religious freedom, while to others, he is a controversial leader responsible for authoritarian rule and religious persecution.

Such a huge range of different frogs available, which made my choices very difficult and now the reason I have a whole draw full of cards and postcards! Much better quality than you can buy in the shops and they are exactly on the subject I love and adore too.
