Orangutan Baby in Borneo Jungle School

A young orangutan takes a break from the equatorial rainforest heat during jungle school at the Orangutan Foundation Care Centre in Indonesia, island of Borneo. All of the orangutans at this famous facility featured in the IMAX movie "Born To Be Wild" are orphans or adults rescued from captive situations. The artist is a volunteer at the Centre and donates all of her profits to help support rescue and rehabilitation of this endangered species of wildlife. Orangutans are gentle, peaceful, and intelligent and are known for their pretty red hair. Their diet consists of fruit, jungle flowers, and other natural vegetation. Offspring stay with their mother for approximately seven or eight years (and sometimes longer) even when other babies are born. Although sometimes referred to as monkeys, orangutans are actually great apes.
