Orava Castle Slovakia Postcard

Perched high on a massive 112-metre-tall rock cliff above the Orava River, Orava Castle stands as one of the most visually striking and historically significant fortresses in Slovakia. Constructed in the 13th century following the Mongol invasions, the castle features a dramatic, multi-layered design that physically conforms to the jagged contours of the spur, creating a breathtaking silhouette that dominates the surrounding forest landscape. Originally built in the Romanesque and Gothic styles, the fortress was later reconstructed with Renaissance and Neo-Gothic elements. It has served as a critical fortification, a noble residence, and a powerful regional seat over the centuries.
