It is believed that in this image the Mother of God is with Child and for this reason the image is used in the Pro-Life Movement as an important symbol of life. This beautiful image is also known as the Mexican Virgin Mary. Pope John Paul II had a great devotion for Our Lady and a Statue was erected in his honour there. Today Our Lady of Guadalupe is known and venerated around the world as Our Lady of the Americas
