Surprisingly, the true origin and meaning behind the celebration of Christmas is not about the birth of a supernatural son—it is about the rebirth of the natural sun in the heavens. December 25 marks winter’s (astronomical) end, which brings the promise of light and replenishment to all. Every ancient civilisation celebrated this joyous "birth" of our sun (named "Sol" by the early Romans). Sadly, after thousands of years, the charming symbols and traditions of these winter solstice celebrations were “Christianised” and are largely forgotten.
