Grand Canyon- Parashant National Monument is sometimes known as "Parashant National Monument" and it's located on the Grand Canyon's northern edge in northwest Arizona. It is managed by the National Parks Service and The Bureau of Land Management. The 1,048,325- acre monument is larger than the state of Rhode Island. There are no paved roads. It is one of the most remote areas in the U.S.A. The monument and the surrounding area are recognised for exceptional combinations of high elevation plateaus, superb air quality, sparse population and prevailing cloud-free weather all of which contribute to some of the best opportunities for observing and enjoying dark night skies. The name Parashant comes from Paiute word "Pawteh 'ee oasoasant" meaning "tanned elk hide" or "softening of the elk hide".
