In a divorce in Illinois, many times, one parent will be made a "custodial parent" and the other parent will become the "non-custodial parent". Society in Illinois essentially treats that non-custodial parent as not important and their home is often called "the satellite home". Resources for sustaining the home for the children is unimportant. Schools, doctors, child care facilities and many others often treat the non-custodial parent as someone who has no authority to be involved in their children's lives. Worse yet, many custodial parents don't see the importance of the involvement of the non-custodial parent ... until it's too late.
