Parkee Squirrel Standing Up, Unalaska Island Postcard

Parkee squirrels were brought to the Aleutian Islands by the Russians as a food source for the foxes they imported. The group of islands where the foxes were introduced were named the Fox Islands and Unalaska Island is a member of this group. Parkee squirrels hibernate in winter and emerge in spring to feed on roots and tubers. They are found all over Unalaska Island and can be seen crossing the roads or watching from the roadsides.
