Passion Flowers and Hummingbirds (c. 1865) by Martin Johnson Heade is a vintage fine art Victorian Era still life painting. Two birds are sitting on a rainforest tree branch perched near blooming tropical red Passiflora flower blooms in the forest. A jungle in the tropics with fog or mist. About the artist: Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904) was a prolific American painter during the Victorian Era known for his salt marsh landscapes, seascapes, tropical birds, lotus blossoms and other still lifes. His painting style was derived from the romanticism of the time. A deep reverence for nature attracted him to the Luminist school of painting. Luminism, in its concern with the effect of light, is now seen as a precursor of Impressionism.
