Paul Cezanne - The Cabin of Jourdan Tile

The Cabin of Jourdan (Le Cabanon de Jourdan), painted in Aix-en-Provence in 1906 in oil on canvas by French Post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne. A small stone cabin with a pointed chimney stands amid trees and open ground, reduced to a few sturdy geometric masses beneath the Provençal sky. Cézanne uses spare, broken strokes and areas of exposed canvas to give the late landscape an unusually direct and concentrated character. The cabin stood about five hundred metres from his Les Lauves studio and belonged to Jourdan, an Aix merchant who owned extensive property in the Beauregard district. Painted in the final year of Cézanne's life, the work is often regarded as one of his last landscapes and has become closely associated with the closing phase of his career. It has even been suggested that Cézanne was working on this very motif when a violent storm caught him outdoors on October 15, 1906; he died one week later.
