Payne Park, Spring Training Field

In 1924 citizens chipped in to build a practice field for the New York Giants to hold spring training in Sarasota, Florida. Over the decades the Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox followed making baseball a wonderful part of Sarasota's community and a fantastic draw for visitors. The field is a city park now but spring training continues in Sarasota at the Ed Smith Stadium Complex on 12th Street. The Baltimore Orioles hold practice there these days.
