One of the five wise meditation buddhas, the Peace Buddha Akshobhya, called Mitrugpa in Tibet, is known for his remarkable perseverance and constancy. He never becomes disturbed by anger or aggression. He symbolises steadfastness and strength and his special attribute is the mirror-like wisdom necessary for healing poisonous aggression, anger and hatred. In Buddhist art, Akshobhya is associated with the east. He is blue in colour and sits on a lotus throne supported by elephants. With his right hand, he makes the earth-touching mudra (bhumisparsha). His left hand rests on his lap and holds a vajra. The vajra is a weapon that has the powers of a thunderbolt (irresistible force) and a diamond (indestructibility).
