Candy canes are classic Christmas sweets which have been associated with this season of joy and cheer for many generations. The origin of candy canes is nebulous but according to folk history they were invented in Cologne, Germany in the late 17th century, when the choirmaster at the church asked a local candymaker to make some sweets to help keep kids quiet during the Christmas Eve service.
