Petrified Forest National Park Arizona Postcard

Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona and features vast deposits of petrified wood. These ancient logs, dating from the Late Triassic epoch, have been preserved through a process of permineralization, where minerals like silica replace the organic wood, transforming them into colourful quartz crystals. The park is set in a dramatic, colourful badlands landscape known as the Painted Desert. Visitors can hike through fields of massive petrified logs and view ancient petroglyphs and ancestral Puebloan ruins, such as Puerco Pueblo. The park offers a unique journey through time, showcasing geological history in a visually stunning and diverse desert environment, with its multi-coloured hills, mesas, and the remnants of a primordial forest that once covered the area.
