In Appalachia pine trees thrive along the high mountain ridges. They are quite striking as their silhouettes stand starkly against the morning or evening skies. Much of my art work over the past 50 years has been inspired by the hills, valleys small creeks and roaring rivers in my home state of West Virginia. I have also tried to capture some of the states vanishing way of life shown by the crumbling barns and deserted homesteads that proudly dotted the land many years ago. Many of the agriculture barns and out buildings that I painted years ago no longer exist and the ones that do will soon follow the same destructive path. The cosy mining communities I grew up in no longer exists even the ever present slate and reddog piles have been covered over with dirt as their fumes were recognised as very unhealthy. Still much beauty remains and will for eons. I never run out of subjects to paint,. I hope you find something you like.
