Pink Orchid and Three Hummingbirds puzzle. Oil on mahogany panel from 1871. Martin Johnson Heade was an American landscape and naturalist painter who frequently depicted birds and flowers. Orchids and hummingbirds were some of his favourite subjects, and this painting stands as one of his most beautiful. Cattleya Orchid and Three Humingbirds depicts a Cattleya orchid surrounded by two Brazilian amethysts hummingbirds and a red-tailed Sappho Comet hummingbird in the midst of a jungle at sunset.
