It is one of the nearest star clusters to the Earth and is easily visbile in the Northern Hemisphere in winter, and in the Southern Hemispehere during summer. The Pleiades have been observed and catalogued since ancient times and has many different meanings in various cultures and traditions. Under certain conditions, the nebulous nature of the star cluster can be observed. This beautiful and signature effect of he Pleiades is the result of the blue light of the stars reflecting off of dust leftover from their initial formation.
